Late Pleistocene and late Holocene lake highstands in the Pyramid Lake subbasin of Lake Lahontan, Nevada, USA

چکیده
Shoreline geomorphology, shoreline stratigraphy, and radiocarbon dates of organic material incorporated in constructional beach ridges record large lakes during the late Pleistocene and late Holocene in the Pyramid Lake subbasin of Lake Lahontan, Nevada, USA. During the late Holocene, a transgression began at or after 3595 F 35 C yr B.P. and continued, perhaps in pulses, through 2635 F 40 C yr B.P., resulting in a lake as high as 1199 m. During the latest Pleistocene and overlapping with the earliest part of the Younger Dryas interval, a lake stood at approximately 1212 m at 10,820 F 35 C yr B.P. and a geomorphically and stratigraphically distinct suite of constructional shorelines associated with this lake can be traced to 1230 m. These two lake highstands correspond to periods of elevated regional wetness in the western Basin and Range that are not clearly represented in existing northern Sierra Nevada climate proxy records. The Lake Lahontan highstand: age, surficial characteristics, soil development, and regional shoreline correlation
The Lake Lahontan basin has been the site of numerous pluvial lakes during the Pleistocene. We address the question of whether or not the highest remnant shoreline features around the perimeter of the lake were produced during the most recent Ž . Ž . Sehoo highstand ;13 ka , the penultimate Eetza highstand ;140–280 ka , or both. To do so, we document surficial characteristics, morphologic prese...
متن کاملReconstruction environmental changes of Maharlou Lake in Holocene
Extended Abstract: 1-Introduction There is a direct relationship in evaporative deposit with the changes in the depth of the lake. Therefore?, valuable information is gained regarding the causation of changes in environment over time. Evaporite minerals formation is a natural phenomenon accruing in water-bodies containing deferent mineral Since sulfate is abundant in seawater and saline lakes...

The Lahontan Mountains quadrangle is located 11 km east of Fallon, Nevada at the southeastern margin of the Carson Sink (Fig. 1). Principal physiographic features include the Lahontan Mountains, collectively consisting of Sehoo, Eetza, Salt Wells, and Rainbow mountains. This quadrangle is part of the greater Lake Lahontan area that in part occupied the southern Carson Desert, previously mapped ...
متن کاملLake-level history of Lake Tanganyika, East Africa, for the past 2500 years based on ostracode-inferred water-depth reconstruction
Assemblages of ostracodes from sediment cores illuminate lake-level history at decadal to centennial timescales during the late Holocene at Lake Tanganyika, East Africa. The ostracode-based lake-level curves for several cores resemble both each other and the only previously published lake-level record of comparable resolution for Lake Tanganyika during this interval, successfully reconstructing...
